At Port Botany, there are three terminal operators whose role it is to facilitate the unloading of containers and onward delivery. Your importation documentation provides you with all the details you need to find out how to gain access to your goods which often is via a customs broker / freight forwarder. The responsibility lies with the person importing the goods for timely collection from the terminal operators’ facilities. Your nominated customs broker / freight forwarding agent can guide you through this process.

The wharves upon which imports and exports are processed are high security areas and are only accessible to authorised personnel. Your agent is best placed to advise you regarding where and when you can gain access to your goods, following their arrival into the country.

The best course of action is to seek the guidance of a freight forwarder/ licensed customs broker depending on what you're looking to import/ export.

Your nominated representative should be able to guide you to applicable local charges including import entry costs, terminal handling fees and port charges. In some instances, depending on the nature of the goods, Australian Border Force and the Department of Agriculture may also intervene.

As the landlord for Port Botany, NSW Ports does not directly play a role in the handling of cargo.

With regards to containerised cargo, NSW Ports charges wharfage fees which are payable by the cargo owner. This fee is usually passed on to the importer via the agent facilitating the import of goods. Refer to Port Charges for more information.
