COVID-19 Testing of Port Workers at Port Botany’s Bulk Liquids Berth 1

UPDATE AS AT 9PM 23 APRIL 2021: 15 of the 15 port workers have tested negative to COVID-19.

UPDATE AS AT 5PM 23 APRIL 2021: 14 of the 15 port workers have tested negative to COVID-19.

UPDATE AS AT 12PM 23 APRIL 2021: NSW Health has interviewed the 18 port workers regarding their whereabouts and interaction with the vessel, the Inge Kosan, and its crew during its stay at Port Botany's Bulk Liquids Berth between 31 March - 1 April 2021. Through these discussions, NSW Health has determined that 1 port worker was not present and 2 had no interaction with the vessel or its crew. NSW Health has therefore advised that a total of 15 port workers are to undertake precautionary COVID testing and remain in isolation until the results are known. So far 12 of the 15 port workers have received COVID test results, all testing negative.

UPDATE AS AT 10AM 23 APRIL 2021: 11 of the 18 port workers have been tested for COVID-19 and returned negative results.

Statement as follows as at 10PM 22 APRIL 2021

NSW Ports was advised on Thursday 22 April that 11 of 13 crew members on board the vessel the Inge Kosan, which is currently at sea off Vanuatu, have tested positive for COVID-19.

The vessel had berthed at Port Botany’s Bulk Liquid Berth 1 between 31 March – 1 April 2021, after arriving from Papua New Guinea on the 31 March 2021. It was loaded with propane and departed 23 hours later on 1 April 2021 for Vanuatu.  A total of 18 port workers had interaction with the vessel or its crew during its stay, with strict COVID protection protocols adhered to at all times. 

NSW Health has advised that the 18 port workers are to undertake precautionary COVID testing and remain in isolation until the results are known.  So far five of the 18 port workers who interacted with the vessel or its crew have received COVID test results, all testing negative.

We will update further as the remaining test results are known.
