Joining in Clean Up Australia Day 2019

NSW Ports joined in Clean up Australia day and coordinated a successful Clean Up event at Port Botany.

Over 35 employees, customers and community stakeholders took to Yarra Bay and Molineux Point to help remove litter and debris from the beach and surrounding areas.

“This was another great effort by our team. It was tough going in the heat but we managed to make a real difference again this year. Together we were able to remove 40 bags of rubbish that might have ended up in our ocean and harmed the local wildlife” said Trevor Brown, HSE and Risk Manager for NSW Ports.

“We are grateful to have our tenants and community partners join with us to enhance the local environment together.”

NSW Ports has sustainability and environmental management as a key part of its business strategy:

  • Most recently NSW Ports achieved an Australian first by establishing an environmental shipping incentive that rewards vessels calling at the port that have reduced air emissions.
  •  NSW Ports also partners with Conversation Volunteers Australia to help rejuvenate bushlands close to Port Botany.
  • A research project underway with the University of Wollongong will also help identify valuable offshore habitats and promote anchoring practices which contribute to the conservation of marine ecosystems.
