NSW Ports is welcoming applications for its 2024 Community Grants Program, which is open to community groups, not-for-profit organisations and schools operating within the vicinity of Port Botany, Port Kembla and the Enfield and Cooks River Intermodal Terminals.

Since launching in 2021, the NSW Ports Community Grants Program has supported more than 50 grassroots projects and programs, awarding around $500,000 to maintain vibrant, thriving neighbourhoods around its facilities.

NSW Ports CEO Marika Calfas said following a hugely successful program last year, NSW Ports was proud to launch the 2024 instalment and encouraged local groups to submit their applications.

“The purpose of our Community Grants program is to help make neighbourhoods better places to live, work, learn and play, by enhancing health and well-being, education opportunities and the environment,” Ms Calfas said.

“We have seen increasing diversity in the applications we’ve received and the projects we’ve supported, which demonstrates just how much great work is being done in our communities.”

The program supports projects that deliver positive outcomes across the areas of education, health, economic development, the environment, arts and culture, social welfare and emergency relief.

Previous recipients have included Frame Running in Wollongong, which provides a sporting service to children with a disability; the Gamay Rangers, who conduct research and restoration of local marine life biodiversity; as well as parents and citizens’ associations, seniors’ groups and multicultural councils.

NSW Ports’ international trade gateways operate 24/7 and contribute $13.6 billion annually to the NSW economy, while supporting about 65,000 jobs – many of them in the local community.

“Our local communities are integral to the day-to-day operations of our ports and intermodal centres,” Ms Calfas said.

“We’re immensely proud to continue to invest in local communities and work together to keep building strong, inclusive, thriving neighbourhoods.”
