NSW Ports is pleased to see confirmation of $44 million in funding by the NSW government, announced by Minister Andrew Constance, to progress the upgrade of Picton Road to motorway standard. The funding will allow Transport for NSW to complete the strategic business case and finalise modelling and options testing at the Picton Road and Hume Highway interchange.
The NSW Freight and Ports Plan 2018-2023 identified the upgrade of Picton road as a key step towards meeting demand for additional freight and improved safety.
This announcement demonstrates the achievement of the critical first step in realising our shared goal of improving the vital connection between Port Kembla and Western Sydney.
NSW Ports is also calling for funding to be allocated to construct the approved Mount Ousley Interchange to enable safer and more efficient connections between Picton Road and the Illawarra.
