Port Kembla: Planning Application in Progress

A new state-of-the-art export facility, proposed by Manildra for Port Kembla, will create opportunities for trade and economic growth in the Illawarra.

This ethanol storage facility is designed to temporarily store beverage-grade ethanol prior to exporting.  The ethanol is manufactured at the Manildra facility in Nowra.

The proponent has undertaken a rigorous environmental assessment, including the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement, available online here: www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au/major-projects/projects/manildra-port-kembla-bulk-liquid-terminal. Following a period of public exhibition, Manildra have responded to the submissions and the State Significant Development Application is now with the Department of Planning and Environment for determination.

The development is projected to generate an estimated 17 truck movements per day to the port, reducing truck movements between Wollongong and Sydney.  The forecast truck movements are well within the approved truck numbers for outer harbour development.

As part of the project development process, information on this proposal was shared with community representatives at the Port Kembla Harbour Environment Group meeting on the 4 August, 2021.

We are confident that the planning and environmental assessment processes required for this development are robust and that the development will incorporate appropriate controls to manage all safety and environmental aspects.
