Record Shipment for Port Kembla Gateway

Image

On 31 August 2017 a new cargo discharge record was set at Port Kembla Gateway’s No.6 Jetty, in the Outer Harbour of Port Kembla.

The new record shipment tonnage of 43,500mt was discharged across the Jetty from the MV Malmo. The cargo was gypsum from Cape Cuvier, near Carnarvon on the Western Australian coast.

This cargo surpasses the previous record of 41,430mt of cement clinker, which was set in April 2015.

This is the largest cargo handled at the No.6 Jetty since its construction in 1956 and continues a proud history of Port Kembla Gateway and the No. 6 Jetty in the Port Kembla community.

Gypsum is used in the manufacture of plasterboard and plaster.  It is also added to soil as a conditioner and to concrete to control the rate of hardening.
