World Maritime Day

Today is the International Maritime Organisation’s World Maritime Day.

This year’s theme is Connecting Ships, Ports and People.

It’s a day to reflect on how we are dependent on our maritime connections to the world for trade and the importance of our port gateways in underpinning our nation’s economic prosperity.

The Australian maritime sector: our ports, stevedores, tugs, pilots, and border agencies work diligently 24/7 to move cargo safely, maintaining navigational safety and maritime security while protecting the marine environment.

NSW Ports works actively to broaden public awareness about the importance of ports and port supply chains in people’s everyday lives.  This year we have partnered with the Australian National Maritime Museum to deliver the exhibition ‘Container – the box that changed the world’.  This free exhibition opens to the public from 26 October 2017.
